An Icon for a New Era
Hyderabad, one of India’s most storied metropolises, is a city where 400 years of heritage coexists with cutting-edge innovation. It is home to UNESCO-recognized monuments, thriving IT corridors, bustling film and pharma hubs, and a growing cosmopolitan identity.
Strategically located in South-Central India, Hyderabad is now globally acknowledged as a “Rising Global City” and a benchmark for urban transformation in the Global South. At the heart of this transformation flows the Musi River, a 240-km long historic river that winds through Telangana’s capital. Within Hyderabad’s ORR limits, the Musi traverses ~55 km, through densely urbanized areas, heritage precincts, peri-urban settlements, and industrial belts.
Once a lifeline of the Deccan Plateau, the Musi has witnessed centuries of change — from the Kakatiya and Qutb Shahi eras, to Nizam-era flood resilience projects, and now, to a 21st-century urban renaissance.
A Call for Iconic Design Proposals
As part of this transformative journey, MRDCL announces an Open International Design Competition for the Iconic Gateway Structure to be located adjacent to Musi River, near the Rajendranagar ORR exit — a high-visibility location just minutes from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) and en route to Hyderabad’s western growth corridor.
The proposed Gateway Structure is envisioned as a monumental expression of Hyderabad’s emerging identity — a city that honors its rich past while shaping a bold, inclusive future. It will serve as a metaphoric and physical threshold—welcoming citizens, investors, tourists, and dreamers into a city that is ambitious yet rooted, global yet grounded.
Let this be a structure that inspires generations—an architectural landmark that reflects Hyderabad’s soul and Musi’s resurgence.
